Further support for the contention that the entire basin is covered by the Convention can be found in the use of the concept of ‘ecosystems’. It can there fore be maintained that the geographical scope of application of the Convention applying to watercourse systems ‘comprises all its ecosystems, including those in land areas, whose concrete identification depends on their interdependence’.113 The conclusion that the Convention follows an ecosystems approach is based primarily on the wording of Article 20 and is discussed in Part IV of the Online User’s Guide.
