Global Relevance

Through the UN Watercourses Convention Global Initiative, a significant amount of research has been conducted into the role and relevance of the UN Watercourses Convention within particular regions. These studies seek to examine the key regional challenges in transboundary water management; trace the evolution and normative content of existing international law relating to international watercourses; and assess the similarities and differences between the existing regional treaty law and the provisions of the UN Watercourses Convention. As a whole, this research provides an important resource for assessing the value added of the UN Watercourses Convention from a regional and basin perspective. Please click on the map to find out more about these regional assessments.
